BIOGRAPHY
Aziza Shad
Aziza Shad is the Chief of the Division of Pediatric Hematology Oncology, Blood and Marrow Transplantation at Georgetown University in Washington, DC. She joined Georgetown University as an Assistant Professor in Pediatrics of the Medical School in the Division of Pediatric Hematology Oncology in 1995. In addition to her responsibilities as the Chief of the Division, she also serves as the Director of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Program and Chair of the Pediatric Tumor Board. Her research interests include leukemias, lymphomas, late effects in long-term survivors of childhood cancer, supportive care and international pediatric oncology.
Dr Shad graduated with honors from Dow Medical College in Karachi, Pakistan, in 1977. After completing a residency in Pediatrics, she obtained a Post-Graduate Diploma in Child Health (DCH) from The University of Karachi, Pakistan, in 1980. After additional training in Pediatrics and Oncology in London, she undertook a Pediatric Residency at the Children’s Hospital, Pennsylvania State University, Hershey, PA (1986-1989). This was followed by a fellowship in Pediatric Hematology Oncology at the National Cancer Institute (NCI) of the National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, MD (1989-1992). She remained at the NCI as a Visiting Scientist in the Lymphoma Biology Section of the Pediatric Branch for an additional three years to work on pediatric lymphomas. Dr Shad is Board Certified in Pediatrics and Pediatric Hematology Oncology.
